| And now for something completely different:
Mano
Cornuto (Horned Hand)
Dictionary
of Symbols
Mano Cornuto means "horned hand" in Italian; the
gesture is commonly depicted on charms against the evil eye. It is unclear whether
the gesture originated as an image of horns or as a "poking out the eyes"
gesture, but ancient lunar goddess charms depicting animal horns were used for
similar protective purposes and are probably related to the gesture.
The use of the horns as a symbol of satanic belief is recent, and is evolved
from it's use by heavy metal musicians and fans. (A good dicussion of the use
of the horned hand gesture in rock can be found here.)
The
horned Hand gesture is also used occasionally by Wiccans as a symbol of the
"horned God" or as the horns of the Moon Goddess, depending on tradition.
I thought it was interesting stuff.... so much for the whole "it's to
illustrate the two horns of Satan" theory that a lot of rockers run
on... hahaha that amuses me.... anyways! enjoy! or not. whatever ^^;

Feels like I’m falling, I’ve been falling for a mile. Took time to realize I’ve been falling for your smile. Love’s a cliché. Love’s a cliché. Well hey, so dark and dreamy, so vapid and benign
Feel like I’m melting like a Lurpac butter guy. Took time to realize I’ve been melting when you sigh. Love’s a cliché. Love’s a cliché. Well hey, so sweet and creamy. The taste it doesn’t part.
Feel like a captive who’s just waiting 'till he dies Took time to realize I’m held captive by your eyes.
Love’s a cliché. Love’s a cliché. Well hey, so soft and bleaching, how the passion leaves you dry.
Get down, get together, Get to your get-together, get down, don’t be tethered. Wear high heels and a feather, Get down, get together. This break is so irrelevant, still irrelevant now.
Seemed we were happy, we were almost satisfied. But I’m acidic and you don’t go out with guys. Love’s a cliché. Love's a cliché, well hey, Love's a cliché.

| Dean Winchester is the
26 year old son of John Winchester and older brother of Sam Winchester
(age 23). The family has a dramatic background, beginning with the
violent, mysterious and supernatural death of their mother, Mary; this
event lead John Winchester to embark on a hunt for her supernatural
killer, throwing his two sons into a world of danger, and instability.
This hunt led the family of three to create a more altruistic goal of
saving innocent and unknowing people from the supernatural creatures
they grew to become so knowledgeable of.
Despite growing up with the constant danger of hazardous
situations, Dean has many strong and consistent personality traits that
constitute a more positive result from Trait Personality evaluations.
Many of these traits spring from purposes that originate from his
reverence, value and loyalty to his family. Thus, it is necessary to
view Dean through a mixture of both the Trait Perspective and the
Social-Cognitive Perspectives of personality. The Trait Perspective is
based upon the idea that oneÂfs personality should be examined through
description of a personÂfs attributes, and not solely through analysis
of their mindÂfs inner workings (Myers 2004 p.591). Whereas the
Social-Cognitive Perspective uses the theory that a personality is
based on, what is essentially, a triangle of interlocking factors:
personal preference/behaviour, oneÂfs own perceptions, and external
influences (2004 p.600-01).
Dean Winchester is a strong and persevering young man, determined
that whatever situation he finds himself in, he will succeed in
surviving it. This confidence implies that Dean has a healthy internal
locus of control (2004 p.602). His life as a supernatural-being hunter
is one that is full of mystery, and uncertainty, and yet in each
situation he enters with an optimism that fosters the expectation of
success. For example, he is able to elicit the help of others through
conveying the conviction he holds in their success using specific tones
and language- he is able to form powerful, compelling sentences that
remove doubt from the minds of those he is helping. In order to cement
his perception of control in any situation, he does thorough and
in-depth research of any force he will be facing. From this knowledge
he is able to lay out detailed plans, that he and his brother follow
explicitly. While not every plan is entirely successful, those that are
act as catalysts to his internal locus of control, which in turn allow
Dean to become more adaptive in the event of an unexpected turn of
events. The occasional failure also saves Dean from becoming
Âgcomplacen[t]Âh (2004 p.604) and overconfident. The development of the
adaptive trait combined with his internal locus of control is also
beneficial as it helps Dean deal with the every day stresses of his job
(2004 p.602). Furthermore, being adaptive and quick-witted combines
well with his inherent leadership capabilities.
Leadership lies in the extrovert-stable quarter of the chart
based on the theories of Hans and Sybil Eysenck (Myers 2004 p.592-3).
Dean exhibits numerous characteristics -associate-d with good leaders:
he is able to delegate jobs between himself and his brother, he is able
to remain clearheaded in the intense, chaotic events the two brothers
often find themselves in, and lastly, as mentioned above, he is
adaptive and sharp. Delegation often takes place during the
investigatory stage of a particular hunting job: when more library
based research and interviewing of witnesses or victims needs to take
place. When the latter of these two jobs is being acted upon, it is
often necessary for Dean to take on the persona of an investigatory
official, which utilizes his adaptive skills, meaning he is able to act
convincingly in his given role- using facts and information relevant to
the situation, as well as paying close attention to details- convincing
others of his sincerity. Lastly, in any surprise incidences that result
in near-absolute chaos, Dean is able to come up with a quick and
effective temporary solution that will either end the attack, or give
those in danger time to evade further damage. In terms of the Big Five
Factors endpoints of extraversion, Dean is not explicitly sociable, but
he is fun-loving, often making humorous comments and playing jokes on
his brother. He is also an affectionate person towards Sam (younger
brother), often expressing care, concern and pride for his younger
brother who he feels is his responsibility.
DeanÂfs upbringing cultivated his extreme sense for the necessity
of being loyal to ones own family. At the age of nine, DeanÂfs father
placed him in a compromising situation, that resulted in intense
protective and anxious feelings about and towards Sam (younger
brother). Using the reciprocal determinism process, the situation
unfolded as follows: DeanÂfs father was to go on a hunt and decided to
leave Dean in charge of Sam- this is an environmental factor (2004
p.601); his father gave Dean specific instructions regarding protective
measures for the two young boys, Dean having supposedly been left in
charge numerous times, grew overconfident and therefore complacent-
this is the internal cognitive factor (2004 p.601); this resulted in
Dean leaving Sam alone in their hotel room- this is the behaviour (2004
p.601). When Dean did return to their room, it was to find Sam (younger
brother) in the midst of an attack, luckily his father returned in time
to save his Sam, however, this event lead Dean to a position of
unwavering admiration and devotion to John Winchester to whom he felt
indebted. This mistake also resulted in DeanÂfs intense, almost
irrational protective tendencies towards his younger brother.
Indicating the importance of individual perspective towards a certain
event. The allegiances Dean felt towards his father and younger brother
often cause discord within Dean, as his younger brother is not nearly
as much of a blind-follower in his father; whereas Dean desires to give
complete cooperation to the orders of their father. This adds a tension
between the brothers that can serve to increase DeanÂfs anxiety and
weaken his emotional stability. DeanÂfs greatest fear also rests in the
thought of losing his younger brother, which causes him great feelings
of panic whenever Sam is in danger. This panic and intensity Dean is
able to turn into further determination, which is a direct result of
his high self-esteem caused by his internal locus of control. DeanÂfs
intense protective sentiment towards his younger brother often serves
to placate Sam (younger brother), thus enabling Dean to express his
affections and retain self-control because he is able to control when
and how he is able to gain gratification. The most common way for Dean
to demonstrate his care of Sam is to be empathetic and understanding of
his younger brother, listening to his troubles and reassuring him of
future contentment.
Dean Winchester has a complex personality, made up of many
layers. The key aspects of it, however, are: his strong optimism and
internal locus of control, his leadership capabilities, and most
importantly by far, his intense loyalty to family values seen in his
unwavering faith in his father, and especially in his intense
protective sentiments towards his younger brother.
